Celebrating International Women’s Month: Strength, Resilience, and Empowerment

March is International Women’s Month—a time to honor the incredible strength, resilience, and achievements of women across the world. As a two-time survivor of metastatic breast cancer and metastatic colon cancer, a devoted single mother of three, and the leader of a thriving martial arts school in Sacramento, I understand firsthand the power of perseverance and the impact of lifting others up.

Women as Warriors

Women throughout history have been warriors in their own right—facing challenges, breaking barriers, and forging paths for future generations. Whether in the boardroom, in classrooms, or on the martial arts mat, women demonstrate remarkable courage and determination. Martial arts, much like life, teaches us that strength isn’t just about physical power but also about mental fortitude, discipline, and the will to never give up.

Empowering the Next Generation

One of my greatest passions is empowering young women through Taekwondo. In my school, I witness young girls transform from shy and uncertain to confident and strong. They learn that their voices matter, that they are capable of more than they imagined, and that their resilience will carry them through life’s obstacles.

As a martial artist, I strive to instill not only physical skill but also a mindset of perseverance and self-respect. The lessons learned on the mat—discipline, respect, and confidence—extend far beyond, helping young women become leaders in their communities and advocates for themselves and others.

Overcoming Adversity

Cancer has tested me in ways I never anticipated. It has been a journey of pain, uncertainty, and immense challenge, but it has also strengthened my resolve to live fully and give back. My battles have taught me that adversity does not define us; rather, our response to it does.

Every woman has a story of struggle and triumph. Whether it’s overcoming illness, breaking societal expectations, or pursuing dreams despite obstacles, women continue to inspire with their resilience. International Women’s Month is a time to celebrate these stories and recognize the boundless potential within us all.

A Call to Action

This month, I encourage everyone to take a moment to uplift and support the women in their lives. Whether it’s through mentorship, encouragement, or simply recognizing their achievements, every action counts. Let’s create a world where women and girls feel empowered to chase their dreams, stand up for themselves, and embrace their inner strength.

To all the women fighting their battles, breaking barriers, and paving the way for future generations—you are seen, you are valued, and you are unstoppable.

Happy International Women’s Month!
